Hainan University (HNU) held the opening ceremony of its first Graduate Student Sci-tech Festival at the Social Sciences Complex on October 20. Fu Xuanguo, Secretary of CPC HNU Committee, Luo Qingming, HNU President and Dean of the Graduate School, and other senior leaders Gao Diangong, Nie Qingbin, Qiu Xiguang, Zou Yonghua, Liu Qian, Li Buhong, Han Shumei, Tan Yong, and Yang Zhixin attended the event.

In his address, President Luo urged the graduate students to focus their research on key issues that align with China’s strategic needs and the development priorities of the Hainan Free Trade Port. He highlighted the importance of leveraging Hainan’s unique geographic and resource advantages and creating a research environment that inspires independent thinking, bold innovation, problem-solving, and pursuit of excellence.
Luo also called for efforts to improve graduate education quality through raising enrollment standards, enhancing faculty development, upgrading research infrastructure, and strengthening academic platforms to promote high-quality growth.

Chen Yixi, Director of the Office of Foreign Talent Recruitment Services under Hainan Provincial Department of Science and Technology, encouraged students to strive for breakthroughs in scientific research. Representatives of the outstanding graduate supervisors and students shared their research experiences, and an awarding ceremony was held for the 2024 “Innovation Stars” and “Outstanding Graduate Supervisor Teams."

Three collaborative innovation forums took place on Haidian campus under the themes of “Marine Science and Technology”, “Ecological Civilization”, and “Information Technology”, together with the “Seminar on Sci-tech Backyards”, “Academic Paper Poster Exhibition”, and “Outstanding Sci-Tech Innovations Roadshow”. Meanwhile, other campuses and science & education parks hosted similar activities.
Leaders from Hainan Provincial Department of Education, Hainan Association for Science and Technology, and representatives of HNU faculty and students attended the event.
