HNU Rises 518 Places in Four Years to New High in 2026 ARWU

On August 15, ShanghaiRanking, a global higher education evaluation organization, officially released the 2026 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). Hainan University (HNU) ranked 340th worldwide and 74th among universities in the Chinese mainland.

Since first entering the ranking in 2022, HNU has risen from 858th to 340th globally, climbing 518 places in four years. Its standing among universities in the Chinese mainland has improved from 142nd to 74th, up 68 places. Scores across multiple key indicators have grown steadily, with particularly strong performance in the Highly Cited Researchers and international publication categories.

The Academic Ranking of World Universities is the world’s first comprehensive global university ranking. It evaluates more than 2,500 universities worldwide based on six indicators: Alumni (alumni winning major international awards), Award (faculty members winning major international awards), HiCi (Highly Cited Researchers), N&S (papers published in Nature and Science), PUB (international publications), and PCP (per capita academic performance). The ranking is widely recognized internationally for its objective and transparent assessment criteria.
