On the morning of July 1, 2026, Hainan University held the 65th session of its Distinguished Scientist Lecture Series in the lecture hall on the second floor of Mingde Building. Professor Ma opened with an overview of the establishment of the State Key Laboratory of Biopharmaceutical Preparation and Delivery (SKLBPD), as well as her team’s research in microsphere (particle) science for biomedical innovation. She analyzed limitations in traditional microsphere fabrication techniques and 2D flat‑plate stem cell culture systems, and pointed out that microcarrier-bioreactor scale‑up is key to producing standardized clinical‑grade stem cells.

She also presented the lab’s world‑first GMP suite for uniform sustained‑release microspheres and their performance metrics, noting that China’s world‑leading technologies urgently need wider application to more products to secure a commanding global position.

Professor Ma emphasized the significance of biopharmaceutical formulation innovation. Drawing on her team’s strategy for developing novel formulations from transformable materials, she systematically elaborated on how adjuvants determine the success or failure of novel vaccine R&D, centering on deformable particles, macroporous spherical carriers, and ferritin, and presented the R&D progress and treatment cases for several types of novel vaccines.

She then introduced the lab’s brain‑related work, including traumatic brain injury repair and hydrogel electrode materials for brain‑machine interface systems.

During the Q&A session, faculty and students actively raised questions on topics such as model data analysis and customized vaccine costs. Professor Ma answered each question thoroughly and shared cutting‑edge perspectives and research experience.

The event was attended both online and offline by representatives from the China Biochemical Pharmaceutical Industry Association, the Hubei Provincial Medical Products Administration, the Hainan Association for Science and Technology, relevant academic societies, and science and technology associations in enterprises and higher education institutions.
