Hainan University adheres to the new trends in higher education, accurately understands the laws of academic development and talent growth, promotes a spirit of reform and innovation that dares to explore and lead, and vigorously advances the reform of the full-credit system, the reform of the collegiate system, and the establishment of collaborative innovation centers. It breaks down barriers between colleges and disciplines, enhances the deep integration of different academic majors in teaching and research, improves a “personalized” talent cultivation mechanism, inspires students’ self-directed learning, and comprehensively enhances the quality of talent cultivation to serve national strategies and the construction of Hainan Free Trade Port.

The quality of talent cultivation at the university continues to improve. In recent years, a group of outstanding individuals have emerged, including national youth with positive values, China’s university self-improvement model students, and China’s annual student role models. They have achieved excellent results in various academic competitions (innovation and entrepreneurship competitions), winning the gold medal in China’s international "Internet+" University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the special award in the United States’ International Mathematical Modeling Competition and Interdisciplinary Modeling Competition, the SIAM awards, the championship in the “Lee-and-Li Cup” National University Mock Court Competition, the special prizes in the National Graduate Public Management Case Competition, the first prizes in the National University Student Art Exhibition Performance Category, and the gold medals in the International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition, among many other national-level awards.
