​Hainan University Hosts Introduction Session on LTU Members and Future Collaboration

On the evening of May 19, HNU hosted the Introduction Session on League of Tropical Universities(LTU) Members & Future Collaboration at the International Academic Exchange Center.

Nine member universities of the LTU from Cambodia, TimorLeste, Nigeria, Malaysia, the Republic of the Congo and other regions, along with relevant departments of Hainan University, introduced their institutional strengths and development visions focusing on artificial intelligence, marine science, law, international student cultivation and other topics, and expressed their strong interest in deepening cooperation. Representatives of overseas universities respectively introduced their institutional profiles, research foundations and development plans, and expressed their willingness to deepen practical cooperation focusing on artificial intelligence, quality improvement of higher education, and collaborative innovation among members of the League of Tropical Universities.

Heads of relevant schools of Hainan University introduced in turn their disciplinary development, talent cultivation, academic research and internationalization achievements, and put forward proposals for cooperation in fields including joint scientific research, postgraduate education, fishery science and technology services, legal practice, and industryuniversityresearch integration. Hainan University Science Park and Hainan Academy of Agricultural Sciences respectively showcased the transformation of scientific and technological innovation achievements and tropical agricultural research technologies. The Humanities and Social Sciences Journal of Hainan University briefed on the preparation for its international edition based on its development history. Drawing on their respective strengths, all parties focused on joint talent cultivation, collaborative research and industrial integration to jointly explore a new model for crossborder coordinated development among tropical universities.

Dr. Lai Soon Onn from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), Malaysia, told reporters that this exchange meeting provided an excellent platform for universities to showcase themselves. He hoped more members would participate in the future and looked forward to expanding cooperation from Southeast Asia to other regions via the LTU, as well as deepening collaboration with Hainan University in fields such as agriculture and biomedicine.

It is understood that since its establishment, the LTU has built a high-level platform for connectivity, joint contribution and shared benefits among tropical universities worldwide, serving as an important vehicle to pool the strengths of all parties for coordinated development. Leveraging the policy dividends of the Free Trade Port, Hainan University has achieved leapfrog development in talent cultivation and research and innovation capabilities. It is expected that with the League as a bridge, all parties will focus on key areas such as academic research, joint talent cultivation, transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and multicultural exchanges, deepen multilateral practical cooperation, learn from each other for mutual progress, and jointly write a new chapter in the coordinated development of tropical higher education.

Heads of relevant departments and institutions, experts, scholars, as well as faculty and student representatives attended the event.
