Hainan University International Advisory Board Holds the 2nd Innovation and Entrepreneurship Sharing Session
On the morning of November 6, the second Innovation and Entrepreneurship Sharing Session during the 7th Annual Meeting of Hainan University International Advisory Board was held in Room B623 of the Social Sciences Building. Zheng Baoyong, Huawei’s Chief Engineer and Executive Vice President, delivered a special report on innovation and entrepreneurship. HNU Vice President for Academic Affairs Zhang Kezhong attended the event.

As Huawei’s co-founder, Zheng Baoyong has witnessed the company’s transformation from a small startup into a global leader in telecommunications, possessing years of technical and management expertise. Blending his individual journey with Huawei’s entrepreneurial story, he shared his transition from an academic researcher to an enterprise founder.
He stressed that startups should not blindly pursue technological perfection but must closely align with market needs, honing their teams and products through practice. Entrepreneurship requires not only passion but also the capacity for continuous learning and resilience to navigate challenges.
Mr. Zheng emphasized that in response to external challenges, companies must remain committed to open cooperation, intensify R&D innovation, and progressively build independent and controllable industrial systems. He expressed his expectation of more substantive projects collaborations with Hainan University in the future.
He offered the advice to students: “Before starting a business, you should focus on building technical expertise and cultivating innovative capabilities. Do not blindly follow trends; instead, identify opportunities based on the market demand.”
