Hainan University International Advisory Board Hosts the 1st Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum of Its 7th Annual Meeting

On the afternoon of November 4, the 1st Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum of the 7th Annual Meeting of Hainan University (HNU) International Advisory Board (IAB) was held in the Lecture Hall B112 of the Social Sciences Building.

Dr. Carter Tseng, vice chair of the IAB and chairman of the Little Dragon Foundation, and Ms. Olivia Ho Cheng, IAB member and President&CEO of Aurora Healthcare Corp., were invited to deliver keynote speeches on innovation and entrepreneurship. HNU Vice president Qiu Xiguang attended the event.

Dr. Tseng delivered a presentation titled “AI-Powered Technology Management and Leadership Development.” He offered a comprehensive overview of the trends and opportunities brought by AI-driven technological innovation, covering topics such as AI Development Opportunities, Cultivation of AI Literacy, and Leadership Development. He emphasised that in the AI era, those who master AI tools will replace those who do not. Drawing on the management theories and insights of Peter Drucker and Elon Musk, he analyzed how entrepreneurs can leverage AI to enhance their competence amid challenges, enabling them to better adapt to new emerging industries, new contexts and evolving trends. He also discussed how individuals can drive career growth and sustain innovation through goal setting, time management and lifelong learning. When speaking about the future development of HNU, he said, “Hainan University should embrace a ‘starting-from-zero’ mindset’ and a spirit of relentless innovation to achieve greater progress.”

Ms. Olivia Ho Cheng delivered a speech titled “Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Ecosystem Building in Emerging Regions: A Case Study from Aurora’s Global Journey.” Drawing on development experiences from Israel, Singapore, Dubai and beyond, she analyzed the underlying logic and developmental pathways driving the rise of emerging economies. Using the growth journey of her own company’s growth as an example, she shared the challenges and breakthroughs encountered in innovation and entrepreneurship. She emphasized that successful entrepreneurs must possess key qualities like market insight, resilience and the ability to integrate resources, along with clear strategic planning, a strong understanding of industry pain points, and the cultivation of robust ecosystem partnerships. She noted that the Hainan Free Trade Port is poised to officially begin its special customs operations, ushering in new opportunities in sectors such as tourism, tropical agriculture, digital services, and healthcare. She suggested that Hainan should actively learn from international experience, give full play to the collaboration among universities, local enterprises and investors, and build a sustainable, distinctive regional ecosystem for innovation and entrepreneurship.

During the interactive session, faculty members and students engaged in discussions with the two experts on topics such as AI ethics and risks, entrepreneurial financing, and innovation and entrepreneurship among college students.
