Hainan University Achieves Excellent Results in the 2025 China Youth Sci-Tech Innovation Challenge Competition

From September 26 to 27, the final round of the 2025 China Youth Sci-Tech Innovation Challenge Competition (Seed Industry Track) was held in the High-tech Zone of Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City, Sanya. Hainan University’s two projects, “PepperPivot: Intelligent Breeding Platform for Multiple Traits of Peppers” and “Innovative Utilization of Hainan Local Pig Germplasm Resources and Research and Application of Key Technologies for Creative Development of Southern China Medicinal Resources”, won the first and second prizes respectively in the young sci-tech talent track.

It is reported that this competition focuses on the national strategies of food security and seed industry revitalization. It has released challenge topics across nine major directions, encompassing smart agriculture, gene editing, germplasm resource innovation and aquatic breeding, covering the technological bottlenecks that urgently need to be broken through for the construction of the Nanfan Silicon Valley Initiative (Southern China’s Breeding Base) and the development of Hainan Free Trade Port. A total of 316 teams from across the country participated in this competition, with 71 teams advancing to the final round. The final was conducted through offline centralized, in-person oral defenses. The panel of judges, composed of experts recommended by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, the challenge-releasing authorities, and the host city, conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the projects from multiple aspects such as innovation, practicality and technical specifications.
