HNU News (by Huang Ruohan and Zhou Mingxuan) — On the evening of September 28, the 2025 “National Day & Mid-Autumn Festival” Gala, celebrating the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, was held at the Siyuan Auditorium of Hainan University. Among those in attendance were Li Hu, Chair of the University Council, Luo Qingming, President of the University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; as well as other university leaders.

Structured around three thematic chapters – “Ode to the Nation in Golden Autumn”, “Youthful Campus”, and “United Under the Bright Moon” – the gala showcased the talents of both faculty and students. Through diverse performances including dance, song, poetry recitation, and musical theater, it vividly portrayed a moving tableau where patriotic sentiments and youthful ideals seamlessly intertwined.

The gala commenced spectacularly with the opening dance “Celebration”.

The song “Today is Your Birthday, China” evoked shared memories and profound patriotism. “The Red Flag Flutters” performed as a powerful male quartet, resonated with immense national pride. “New Horizon” expressed the nation's steadfast belief and lofty spirit in pursuing the Chinese Dream. The poetry recitation “Ode to October · Sparks Upon the Sea” masterfully condensed 76 years of glorious achievements into inspiring verse, delivering a powerful voice resonant with the times.

A medley of original campus songs – “Setting Out Together”, “Dreams Awaken from the Azure”, “Setting Sail”, and “Children of the Sea” – demonstrated the vibrant and enterprising spirit of HNU students through the power of youthful composition, voicing their aspiration to set sail and courageously shoulder the mission of the times.

The original opera “The Fair Moon to Share” unfolded the early life and literary creations of the renowned scholar Su Dongpo. Through exquisite performances and moving music, the production not only delved into unique historical and cultural roots but also created a dialogue across millennia. In an ingenious scene, “Su Dongpo” encountered today’s Hainan University students, marveling at modern wonders like the “Beidou constellation weaving its net and Tianzhou crossing the Milky Way”, and emotionally expressing admiration for today’s China. This artistic conception allowed themes of patriotism, family reunion, and literary breadth to traverse a thousand years, profoundly touching every audience member.
