Malacca Governor Visits HNU to Strengthen Ties


A 12-member delegation headed by Tun Mohd Ali Rustam, Governor of Malacca, Malaysia and President of Dunia Melayu Dunia Islam (DMDI), and Haji Yusuf Liu Baojun, Vice President of DMDI visited Hainan University (HNU) on January 16. The guests, accompanied by officials from Hainan Provincial Foreign Affairs Office, were warmly received by Yue Wen, Vice President of HNU, and Tan Yong, Director of HNU’s United Front Work Department.

Yue Wen extended a cordial welcome to the delegation and introduced HNU’s recent achievements in leveraging Hainan’s unique advantages to advance “new quality productive forces” for the Free Trade Port development. Yue highlighted the existing cooperation between HNU and Malaysian universities, noting Malaysia’s strategic role as a key partner in China’s Belt and Road Initiative. Yue also highlighted the sister-city relationship between Haikou and Malacca, emphasizing the promising prospects for cooperative educational programs. He anticipated that this visit would serve as an opportunity to strengthen collaboration with universities, research institutions, businesses, and associations in Malacca. Yue also proposed using the League of Tropical Universities (LTU) as a multilateral platform to deepen cooperation and create a win-win future.

Tun Ali thanked HNU for the warm hospitality, lauded its leapfrog development in recent years and spoke highly of the cooperation proposals. He mentioned both Malacca and Haikou boast rich tourism resources and favorable climate. He expected to cooperate with HNU in operating joint programs in Malay and Chinese, hosting international symposiums, and promoting academic disciplines like tourism and tropical horticulture, and expressed willingness to liaise between HNU and educational institutions in Malacca for the advancement of the LTU.

The meeting was also attended by representatives from HNU’s Office of External Relations and Alumni Affairs, Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, School of Humanities, School of International Studies, School of Tropical Agriculture and Forestry, and School of International Tourism and Public Administration.
