U.S. Consul General Pauline Kao Visits HNU


On November 9, Pauline Kao, Consul General of the U.S. Consulate General in Guangzhou visited Hainan University (HNU) and held talks with Vice President Chen Jun.

Chen Jun extended a cordial welcome and introduced HNU’s recent achievements in improving educational quality, expanding the scale of operation, strengthening academic disciplines, and enhancing international collaboration and exchanges, especially against the backdrop of building Hainan Free Trade Port. Chen emphasized HNU’s commitment to internationalization, noting its strong partnerships with leading U.S. institutions and expressing hope for closer ties with globally renowned organizations like the Philadelphia Orchestra to promote bilateral cultural exchanges.

Pauline Kao lauded HNU’s achievements in establishing joint programs with foreign universities, stating that her visit aimed to strengthen China-U.S. cultural exchanges and foster deeper collaboration in education and arts.

Both sides explored future collaboration during the meeting, including student exchange programs, faculty visits, joint research, and cultural and artistic performances.

Following the talks, the delegation attended a joint concert featuring members of the Philadelphia Orchestra and Hainan University students and faculty in HNU’s Music Hall. A series of classic pieces were presented, delivering a stunning artistic experience. This special concert celebrated the unique musical traditions of both countries, further deepening friendship and cooperation.

Going forward, HNU will continue its open and inclusive approach to education, strengthening partnerships with global universities and cultural institutions to contribute to cross-cultural exchange and mutual learning.

The event was also attended by Liu Liang, Director of HNU’s Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, Zhang Junjun, Associate Dean of the School of International Communication and Arts, and representatives from the Hainan Provincial Foreign Affairs Office.
