From October 17 to 19, a HNU delegation headed by Vice President Chen Jun visited the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and the City University of Hong Kong (CityU).
At HKU, the delegation was warmly received by Prof. Zhang Xiang, President of HKU and Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), along with Associate Vice President Sun Hongzhe. Chen Jun highlighted the strong, long-standing partnership between HNU and HKU. He called for deeper and broader collaboration, particularly in materials science, to explore new opportunities for high-level joint education programs. He emphasized the role of such initiatives in further enriching educational exchanges between Hainan and Hong Kong. Following the meeting, the delegation also visited HKU’s Department of Mechanical Engineering, where they had in-depth discussions with related faculty members.

At CityU, the delegation met with Associate Vice President Li Juan and other senior officials. Topics included student exchange programs, joint education programs, and high-impact collaborative research. Chen Jun noted that opportunities for HNU-CityU cooperation exist in multiple fields, especially marine science and veterinary medicine. He advocated creating a long-term mechanism to promote deeper cooperation in academic research and talent fostering. The visit also included a tour of CityU’s State Key Laboratory of Marine Pollution and interaction with related researchers.

The delegation also paid a visit to Prof. Way Kuo, Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and President Emeritus of CityU. Chen Jun thanked Prof. Kuo for his constant support for HNU’s international programs, particularly constructive proposals for the veterinary medicine program at the HNU Massey International College (to be officially established). Chen Jun emphasized HNU’s commitment to maintaining close ties with Prof. Kuo and anticipated expanding collaboration to drive educational and research innovation in veterinary medicine.
The delegation included representatives from HNU’s Office of Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Affairs, the School of Materials Science and Engineering, the School of Marine Science and Engineering, and the School of Tropical Agriculture and Forestry.
