A delegation headed by Jim Burkee, President of Avila University (AU), visited Hainan University (HNU) on October 22 and met with Vice Presidents Nie Qingbin and Chen Jun at the Administration Building.

Nie Qingbin warmly welcomed the delegation, updating them on HNU’s recent achievements in improving educational quality, expanding the scale of operation, strengthening academic disciplines, and enhancing international collaboration and exchanges, especially against the backdrop of building Hainan Free Trade Port. Nie highlighted HNU’s long-standing partnerships with several leading U.S. universities and expressed hope that President Burkee’s visit would usher in more extensive and fruitful collaboration with American universities and research centers.
Chen Jun noted that opportunities for mutual cooperation abound, which could contribute to the rapid development of both universities. He encouraged active exchanges among faculty members and students to jointly develop high-level research programs.
Jim Burkee thanked HNU for the warm hospitality and lauded its tremendous development in recent years. He introduced AU’s history, academic disciplines and expressed the intention to establish an efficient mechanism to advance cooperation in information technology, data science, health, and medicine.

Before the talks, the AU delegation toured HNU History Museum and the campus. The meeting was also attended by representatives from HNU’s Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, the School of International Communication and Arts, the School of Cyberspace Security, the School of Computer Science and Technology, and the School of Life and Health Sciences.
