Prof. Nor Hisham Hamid, Vice President of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), led a delegation to visit Hainan University (HNU) on the morning of October 8. Chen Jun, Vice President of HNU, met with the guests.

Chen Jun extended a warm welcome to the UTP delegation and briefed them on HNU’s recent achievements in expanding the scale of operation, strengthening the development of academic disciplines, and promoting international exchanges and collaboration. He highlighted the fruitful outcomes of bilateral cooperation, particularly in high-level exchanges, faculty and student exchange programs, and the joint efforts to build the League of Tropical Universities (LTU). Chen hoped that this meeting would serve as a key opportunity to further deepen the partnership against the backdrop of LTU, with the focus on developing cooperative programs in the leading academic disciplines of both sides.
Prof. Nor Hisham Hamid thanked HNU for the hospitality and outlined UTP’s specific plans for collaboration. He emphasized that the renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and student exchange agreement could accelerate the cooperation in student short-term study programs, overseas internships, and collaborative research in chemical engineering, environmental protection, and deep-sea research. He also underscored the need to strengthen ties through enhancing university-industry partnerships.
Representatives from HNU’s Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, the School of Marine Science and Engineering, the School of Computer Science and Technology, and the School of Environmental Science and Engineering also attended the meeting.

The UTP delegation toured HNU History Museum and the State Key Laboratory of Marine Resource Utilization in the South China Sea. They gained insights into HNU’s history and operations and expressed admiration for the university's achievements in scientific research. The delegation also engaged in in-depth discussions with leaders from the School of Marine Science and Engineering. The two sides reached consensus on joint education programs, exchange programs, and faculty research collaboration, laying a strong foundation for future bilateral cooperation.
