HNU Students Clinch Gold at WTT China Grand Smash

On the evening of October 4, Lin Shidong, a first-year student majoring in Leisure Sports at Hainan University (HNU), along with his partner Kuai Man, clinched gold in mixed doubles at the 2024 World Table Tennis (WTT) China Grand Smash, defeating fellow Chinese pair Lin Gaoyuan and Wang Yidi 3-1 in the final.

Just two days later, Lin once again made headlines by winning the men’s singles title at the WTT China Grand Smash. In the thrilling final, he edged out Ma Long, a legendary “Super Grand Slam” champion and team captain, with a narrow 4-3 victory. This win marked Lin’s third consecutive men’s singles title following earlier victories in the WTT Contender Almaty and WTT Champions Macao last month.

The 2024 WTT China Grand Smash, lasting from September 26 to October 6 at Beijing’s Shougang Park, was one of the highest-level international events in the WTT series, drawing around 250 elite players worldwide.
