Hainan University (HNU) engaged in a series of exchange activities with the University of Strathclyde (UK) and Tsinghua University from April 10 to 12, focusing on joint scientific research and talent development.
On the afternoon of April 12, a symposium was held in Beijing, bringing together representatives from all three universities for in-depth discussions on advancing collaboration in Biomedical Engineering (BME), particularly in research and talent development. Key attendees included Stephen McArthur, Principal of the University of Strathclyde; Campbell Booth, Associate Principal; Cheng Jing, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chair Professor in Tsinghua University’s School of Biomedical Engineering; Liu Peng, Party Secretary of the School; and Luo Qingming, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the President of HNU.
The discussions centered on fostering synergy in BME, with consensus reached on multiple fronts: joint research initiatives, technology transfer, pragmatic industry-academia collaboration, joint talent development programs, and innovation-entrepreneurship ecosystems. The participants recognized that the three universities, with their distinctive academic strengths and high complementarity, possess a solid foundation and tremendous potential for collaboration. Moving forward, the institutions agreed to deepen multi-faceted and regular exchanges. By leveraging their respective advantages, they will work jointly to advance technological innovation and cultivate globally competent, interdisciplinary talents, with the shared goal of driving high-quality growth in the BME industry.

On the afternoon of April 11, Campbell Booth led a delegation to the School of Biomedical Engineering at Hainan University. During the visit, Mr. Shu Wenmiao, Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering in Strathclyde, delivered a keynote lecture in the BME Frontier Forum. President Luo Qingming accompanied the delegation and attended the session.

On April 10, Campbell Booth led the delegation to the Haidian and Mission Hills campuses of HNU. An exchange symposium was held in Meeting Room 501 of the Administration Building, attended by Vice President Yue Wen. Prior to the symposium, Campbell Booth visited the HNU History Museum and the Collaborative Innovation Center.
