On April 15, 2026, Shanghai Ranking, a higher education consultancy, released the 2026 Best Chinese Universities Ranking. Hainan University sustained strong progress, rising 6 places from last year to rank 87th.

HNU has risen steadily over eight consecutive years since 2018, a leap of 128 places in total.

In the Shanghai Ranking’s Best Chinese Universities Ranking 2026, HNU ranks 87th nationally, 1st in Hainan and 40th among comprehensive universities.

With its professionalism, objectivity and transparency, the Shanghai Ranking’s Best Chinese Universities Ranking is recognized as a globally influential benchmark of Chinese universities’ comprehensive strength. The evaluation is based on  10 modules, 35 dimensions, 104 indicators and 398 variables, covering key areas including talent cultivation, research output, social services, and international competitiveness.
