HNU Holds 11th Luminaries Lecture in Humanities & Social Sciences


Hainan University (HNU) held its 11th Luminaries Lecture in Humanities & Social Sciences in the auditorium of the Social Science Complex on the morning of December 30. Li Zhaoxing, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, delivered a lecture titled “Staying True to Original Aspiration: Patriotism, Dedication, and National Spirit”. Fu Xuanguo, Secretary of CPC HNU Committee, and other senior HNU leaders were in attendance. Vice President Nie Qingbin chaired the event.

Drawing on his personal experiences, Li shared how his unwavering commitment to “staying true to original aspiration and serving the nation and its people” guided him through the journey from a passionate college student to a key architect and executor of China’s foreign policies. He encouraged the students to study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, pass on China’s cultural heritage, cultivate a strong sense of patriotism, and align their personal aspirations with national development.

Li emphasized that throughout his career in diplomacy and later in charity after retirement, he remained steadfast in his loyalty to the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the people, embodying the principles of a CPC member. He urged the students to remember their historical responsibilities and mission in this era, practice patriotism through action, prioritize national interests, and maintain a people-centered mindset. He encouraged them to contribute to China’s great rejuvenation with hard work and devotion to serving the people.

In his concluding remarks, Li called on the students to cherish the hard-won peace and development opportunities, strengthen their understanding of CPC’s innovative theories, and strive to become high-caliber professionals with a global vision to better serve the country.

The lecture attracted a packed and attentive audience. In the Q&A session, they raised questions about youth development, global challenges and trends in diplomacy. Li offered detailed answers, sharing his unique insights and valuable experiences.

Faculty and student representatives from all HNU campuses and science & education parks, as well as heads of the departments concerned, also attended the lecture, in person or virtually.
