Hainan University (HNU) hosted its 2025 New Year’s Gala on the evening of December 31, 2024 at the Siyuan Auditorium. The event was attended by Fu Xuanguo, Secretary of CPC HNU Committee, President Luo Qingming, and other senior leaders.

The gala showcased a series of performances highlighting HNU’s legacy and aspirations. The choral performance “Songs of Hainan University” made a review of the past 65 years of persevering efforts and significant progress made by generations of faculty and students. The musical “Loyal Heart Shines in Hainan Island” paid tribute to the founders including He Kang, who overcame numerous challenges to break the rubber blockade imposed by western powers. Meanwhile, the duet “Dreams Soar from the Blue Coast” celebrated the youth in Hainan who are determined to scale new heights in the year ahead.

The highly acclaimed dance drama “Xuan Yuan Theatre” was back, bringing history to life with its vivid storytelling. Against the backdrop of raging wars, it depicted the resilience of the Hainanese who followed the Communist Party of China (CPC) and maintained their struggles for liberation over 23 years amid great adversities.

Other highlights included the lyrical “Tune of Diaosheng” and the lively “Firewood Dance,” reminding the audience that Hainan is a land of poems and music. The medley “Li and Miao Folk Songs” captured the vibrant traditions of the island’s indigenous communities with their happy singing and graceful dancing.

This year’s gala carried special significance as all the programs were original works created by HNU faculty and students. Inspired by Hainan’s history, red culture, local traditions, Li and Miao customs, and the spirit of HNU, the performances offered a unique artistic experience through music, dance, and drama.
