According to the latest Essential Science Indicators (ESI) statistics released by Clarivate Analytics on January 9, 2025, the Computer Science discipline of Hainan University (HNU) has entered the global top 1% rankings for the first time.

ESI is widely regarded as a key metric for evaluating the international academic performance and influence of universities and research institutions. It ranks disciplines according to the total number of citations for the papers published over the past decade, with those among the top 1% recognized as high-level disciplines globally.

HNU’s Computer Science discipline boasts 680 papers published over the past 10 years, which have garnered 5,446 citations, with an average of 8.01 citations for each paper. Notably, 10 of these papers are classified as high-impact papers by ESI.

To date, HNU has nine disciplines listed among the ESI global top 1%, namely Plant and Animal Science, Materials Science, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Engineering, Environmental Science/Ecology, Biology and Biochemistry, Social Sciences (General), and the newly-added Computer Science.
