The 32nd Distinguished Scientist Lecture was held at the auditorium of the Tin Ka Ping Building on the afternoon of November 25. Zhao Guoping, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Director of the Microbiome Center at Fudan University, delivered a keynote lecture titled “Staying True to the Original Aspiration: The ABCDE of a Life in Life Sciences Research”. The event was attended online or in person by Xu Wei, Vice Chairman of Hainan Association for Science and Technology, and senior HNU leaders, including Qiu Xiguang, Zou Yonghua, Li Buhong, Han Shumei, and Tan Yong. The event was chaired by Li Buhong.

In his lecture, Zhao systematically elaborated on the innovative data chain in the biomedical field, covering topics such as the exponential growth of biomedical research data, the essence of biomedical big data, foundational scientific engineering projects, and the technical systems for storing, managing, and utilizing biomedical data. With his personal experiences over the past decades, he explained in detail ABCDE, which refers to Attitude, Basic, Collaboration, Discipline and Efficiency. Zhao encouraged the audience to aim high, establish a positive outlook on life, develop fundamental skills, and take on important responsibilities proactively. He emphasized the importance of staying true to one’s mission, seizing opportunities, overcoming hardships, and dedicating oneself to meaningful pursuits.

The auditorium was fully packed, with attendees deeply engrossed in Zhao’s lecture. A lively Q&A session followed, during which Zhao gave detailed and insightful answers.
