HNU Holds 8th Luminaries Lecture in Humanities & Social Sciences


Hainan University (HNU) held its 8th Luminaries Lecture in Humanities & Social Sciences in the auditorium of the Tin Ka Ping Building on the morning of November 8. Li Congjun, former President of Xinhua News Agency and a member of the 17th and 18th Central Committees of the CPC, delivered a lecture titled “Character, Knowledge, and Professionalism”. Attendees included Wang Yao, former Chairperson of China Photographers Association, and Fu Xuanguo, Secretary of CPC HNU Committee, as well as other senior HNU leaders, including Nie Qingbin, Chen Jun, Han Shumei and Tan Yong. The event was presided over by Fu Xuanguo.

Through these stories, he illustrated the core philosophy behind “cultivating character, pursuing knowledge, and seeking professionalism”.

Li’s long-lasting career in journalism has been marked by his extraordinary powers of perception, strong sense of social responsibility, and exceptional leadership skills. He has witnessed countless historic events and documented them with great professionalism. Li emphasized the sacredness of academic learning, encouraging the students and faculty to seek excellence in scholarship in a meticulous, specialized and well-rounded way. He advocated for the cultivation of a logical mindset to understand the laws governing external phenomena and the integration of learning with career. He also inspired the attendees to foster adaptability and creativity, to embrace interdisciplinary approaches, and to relentlessly pursue their goals and aspirations.

The auditorium was filled to capacity and the audience was deeply engrossed in Li Congjun’s motivational lecture. Representatives of the students and faculty from all the campuses and science & education parks of HNU, as well as the heads of relevant departments attended in person or online.
