Hainan University (HNU) held the 6th annual meeting of its International Advisory Board (IAB) at the International Academic Exchange Center on October 29. President Luo Qingming, also a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and other senior leaders Zhang Jiyou, Gao Diangong, Nie Qingbin, Zou Yonghua, Liu Qian, Li Buhong, Chen Jun, Han Shumei, Tan Yong, and Yang Zhixin attended in person. IAB Chairman Da Hsuan Feng, Vice-Chairman Carter Tseng, and 11 other members attended in person or online. The event was presided over by Chen Jun.

President Luo presented an overview of HNU’s strategic initiatives to promote personalized education, expand global partnerships and develop into a talent magnet for Hainan Free Trade Port and a regional hub of innovation-led growth. He acknowledged IAB’s significant role since its inception, noting the board members’ suggestions and support have contributed markedly to HNU’s leapfrog development. Luo expected the board will continue to contribute their insights and wisdom, bringing in the best practices of higher education worldwide to help HNU fine-tune its goals and elevate its global standing.

IAB Chairman Da Hsuan Feng delivered the annual work report, underscoring the board’s contributions over the past year in helping HNU advance reforms in talent recruitment and nurturing, academic discipline development, scientific research, and international engagement. He emphasized that these endeavors had significantly enhanced the academic reputation and global influence of HNU. Looking ahead, Feng pledged the board’s commitment to deepening ties, sharing cutting-edge research and innovative ideas, and helping HNU enhance academic growth, expand international cooperation, and attract top talents globally.

During the meeting, President Luo presented a certificate of appointment to the newly inducted board member Wang Jing. Additionally, IAB Chairman Feng and Vice-Chairman Tseng, awarded certificates of IAB special grant to the representatives of the students.

Vice Presidents Nie Qingbin, Liu Qian, Li Buhong, Zou Yonghua, and Chen Jun gave briefings respectively on the institutional development planning, complete credit system reform, talent development, research endeavors in natural and social sciences, and international exchange and cooperation. The board members conducted lively and in-depth discussions on these topics, offering insights and proposals.

The meeting was attended by the heads of relevant departments, foreign affairs coordinators, and faculty and student representatives.
