Coming Together from Across the World
As the new academic year unfolds, Hainan University (HNU) campuses are abuzz with excitement. From August 30 to 31, more than 13,000 students from all over the world arrived, ready to embark on their new journey at HNU.
To ensure their safe arrival and smooth registration, HNU made an elaborate plan to provide “one-stop services”. A fleet of buses were dispatched to transport the new students and their parents from the key transport hubs including Meilan International Airport, Xiuying Port, Xinhai Port, Haikou Railway Station, and Haikou East Railway Station to different campuses. Meanwhile, campus shuttles were arranged at the university gates, ensuring they could arrive at different registration spots without hassle.
“Welcome, New Students!”
The campuses were decorated with a multitude of welcoming signs. Customized photo booths featuring the words like “Welcome, New Students!” were set up near the gates to help the newcomers capture their memorable moments.

HNU leaders, including Party Secretary Fu Xuanguo and Executive Deputy Party Secretary Zhang Jiyou, visited the staff and volunteers at the registration spot of each residential college. They greeted new students and their parents, encouraging the new students to make the most of their coming years at HNU.

Different residential colleges welcomed their students in different ways, showcasing a rich and vibrant campus culture. At Zhonghe College, new students from home and abroad cooperated to create a signature wall with the cards they had signed in various languages. At Haide College, students participated in the “TimeMailer” event, writing letters to themselves in the future to commemorate the beginning of their university life. Qingyun College hosted lucky draws and mystery box openings for its new members, while Chunming College offered one-stop services, special gift packages, a coming-of-age ceremony, and a “Wish Wall”. Jinzhao College organized a “group birthday” celebration for students whose birthdays coincided on the same day, with teachers and fellow students singing birthday songs and offering their best wishes.

Over these two scorching days, volunteers busied themselves with various jobs. They set up tents, prepared supplies, and helped new students carry luggage and navigate through the registration process. Their presence was quite a sight to behold. Each college mobilized counselors, CPC members, and student volunteers to assist with the reception work, providing the new HNU members with attentive services.

Besides, each campus (science & education park) designated rest areas for the parents of new students, with water and beverages being served. They could also accompany their children to complete the registration process and meanwhile explore the scenic campus.
Setting Sail on a New Journey at HNU
“The campus has so many trees, and the coconut palms are very eye-catching, and my fellow students are all friendly and lively,” said Chen Sitian, a student majoring in Drama and Film Literature from Shanxi. She expressed her hope to make new friends and develop all-round capabilities during her four years at HNU.
Xiong Yu, a student majoring in Mechanical Design, Manufacturing, and Automation from Henan, said the “high temperature” of Hainan made a deep impression on him, and he had great expectations for his studies and life at this “tropical university”.
“The campus is huge,” said Xie Yitu, a student majoring in Intelligent Science and Technology from Hebei, “I hope to have a fulfilling experience here, enhancing my skills and realizing my potential.”
On each campus, the new students wrote down their goals and wishes for the next four years on the “University Plans Made in 2024” backdrop board.
