HNU Holds 26th Lecture of Distinguished Scientist Lecture Series


On the afternoon of July 3, the 26th Distinguished Scientist Lecture was held in the Lecture Hall in the wing of the Tin Ka Ping Building. The event featured a keynote speech entitled “Innovative Fibers Leading the Future” by Zhu Meifang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a Ph.D. supervisor at Donghua University, specializing in fiber materials. The distinguished guests attending the lecture included Tao Wenjie, Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Teacher’s Union; Xu Wei, Vice Chairman of the Hainan Association for Science and Technology; Lin Hongshan, Executive Vice Chairman of the Hainan Education Union; Fu Xuanguo, Secretary of the CPC HNU Committee; Luo Qingming, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of HNU; and other HNU leaders including Zhang Jiyou, Gao Tiangong, Nie Qingbin and Qiu Xiguang. The event was moderated by Luo Qingming.

Starting from the new quality productive forces, Zhu reviewed the origin of fiber materials and the arduous development process of China’s fiber materials industry, highlighting three aspects: the source of fibers, the innovation of materials and the benefits of fibers. She elaborated on the research achievements and application prospects of smart fibers in fields such as artificial intelligence, electronic information, aerospace and national defense and military. She emphasized that the fiber material, as a new quality productive force, is gradually moving towards intelligent development and has great potential in strategic emerging industries and future sectors. She encouraged the students present to be inquisitive, persistent in seeking the truth, and to understand that the path of scientific research is never without challenges. She stressed the importance of daring to question, communicating openly, and persevering through setbacks to ultimately discover truths.

The online and offline participants also included a delegation of model workers from universities in Shanghai, heads of relevant departments of the Hainan Association for Science and Technology and HNU, and representatives of teachers and students from various campuses of HNU, totaling over 700.
