Foundation-Stone Laying Ceremony
The School of Tropical Fruits and Vegetables Studies of Hainan University is located on the west side of Qixianling Global Tropical Fruit Expo Center in Baoting County, with a planned land area of about 1,500 mu (about 247 acres) and a total investment of 2.048 billion yuan. It will be built as a second-level teaching institution of Hainan University and can accommodate more than 3,000 teachers and students for teaching and research.
As part of efforts to carry out General Secretary Xi Jinping’s instructions during his inspection trip to Hainan, the establishment of the School of Tropical Fruits and Vegetables Studies is helpful in supporting the construction of Hainan Free Trade Port. In response to the domestic and international market demand for tropical fruits and vegetables and the shortage of professional talents in this field, with “novelty, uniqueness, excellence” as its positioning, the School will breed tropical fruits and vegetables whose seeds are imported from countries at the similar latitude, and collaborate with the local government and Hainan Nongken in talent cultivation, discipline development, scientific research development, achievement transformation and international cooperation. The School is expected to be built into a Hainan-based modern industrial institute integrating teaching, research and achievement transformation in the field of tropical fruits and vegetables, serving China and tropical countries worldwide. It also aims to cultivate talents for tropical fruit planting, scientific research and industrial upgrading, provide assistance in shaping standardized and moderately regulated regional leading industries, thus enhancing China’s competitiveness in the international market, and promoting the common development of tropical fruit industry.
The participants in ceremony includes: Wang Wenping, Zhao Wende, Lin Hongbing, Feng Yaquan, Zhang Haotian, Li Haixiong and Lin Mengdi from Baoting County; Chen Hailang and Li Zhiquan from Hainan Nongken Investment Holding Group Co., Ltd., and Zou Yonghua, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC HNU Committee and Vice President of HNU.
