On the morning of June 10, the Haikou Municipal People’s Government and HNU signed the Agreement on Joint Development of Haikou People’s Hospital, followed by the unveiling ceremony for the First Affiliated Hospital of HNU.
Witnesses to the signing and unveiling included Fan Shaojun, Secretary of the CPC Haikou Municipal Committee; Zhang Yong, Mayor of Haikou; Li Yufeng, Chief Inspector of Education of Hainan Province; Li Juan, Deputy Director of the Hainan Provincial Health Commission; Chen Guoqiang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and President of Hainan Medical University; Li Hu, Chair of HNU Council; and Luo Qingming, Academician of CAS and President of HNU. The ceremony was presided over by Liang Mou, Chairman of the Haikou Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

Under the agreement, the two sides will follow the principles of government guidance, university leadership, complementary strengths, clearly defined rights and responsibilities, and coordinated development. Leveraging their respective strengths, they will deepen cooperation in building research platforms, recruiting and training talent, commercializing scientific and technological achievements, and fostering industries. These efforts are designed to integrate medical, educational, and research resources for collaborative innovation. Together, the two sides will develop Haikou People’s Hospital into a high-standard institution, boost the high-quality development of the healthcare sector in the Hainan Free Trade Port, and fully support Hainan University’s drive to become a world-class university.
At the unveiling ceremony, Haikou People’s Hospital officially unveiled the additional plaque of “First Affiliated Hospital of Hainan University”. Integrating high-level clinical care, education, and clinical research, the hospital strives to become a leading regional medical center and a collaborative innovation platform, thereby raising the overall standard of healthcare and higher education in the Hainan Free Trade Port.
