According to the latest Essential Science Indicators (ESI) data released by Clarivate Analytics on January 8, Microbiology at Hainan University has entered the global top 1% for the first time, a milestone for the university’s global research profile.
Over the past 10 years, Hainan University’s Microbiology research has contributed 450 ESI-indexed papers, accumulating 5,736 citations with an average of 12.75 per paper, including three ESI high-impact papers.
With Microbiology’s entry, Hainan University now has 10 ESI top 1% disciplines: Plant & Animal Science, Materials Science, Chemistry, Agricultural Sciences, Engineering, Environmental Science/Ecology, Biology & Biochemistry, General Social Sciences, Computer Science, and Microbiology.
ESI, launched in 2001, is an important analytical tool that identifies top-performing research and tracks emerging science trends in global research. Its methodology is based on core metrics including the number of papers, the number of citations, citations per paper, and highly cited papers. ESI database covers a rolling 10-year period and includes bimonthly updates that rank authors, institutions, countries, and scientific journals.
