The 2026 QS Asia University Rankings were released on November 4, with Hainan University (HNU) making its debut on the list. The university ranked 405th in Asia and 86th among universities in the Chinese mainland, marking a new milestone in its international development and global influence.
This year’s rankings featured 1,529 institutions across 25 higher education systems worldwide, including 395 universities from the Chinese Mainland. Released by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a globally recognized higher education research organization, the rankings adopt a comprehensive assessment system based on key indicators such as academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per paper (an indicator of research impact), and international research network. To be eligible for the ranking, an institution must first receive a nomination in the academic reputation survey.
