The 2025 edition of ShanghaiRanking’s Best Chinese Academic Subjects ranking was released on October 15, with 27 subjects from Hainan University (HNU) making the list. With this achievement, HNU ranks 60th nationally in terms of the number of entries. Ten subjects have shown significant improvement, with two—Law and Business Administration—breaking into the top 12% nationwide. Another six subjects—Marxist Theory, Ecology, Crop Science, Public Administration, Aquaculture, and Biomedical Engineering—have entered the top 20%, representing an increase of four from the 2024 edition. Compared to 2020, five subjects—Biomedical Engineering, Public Administration, Environmental Science and Engineering, Pharmacy, and Cyberspace Security—have advanced by five or more tiers.

It is reported that the ranking’s indicator system encompasses five categories: Talent Development, Platform Projects, Award-Winning Achievements, Academic Papers, and High-End Talents, which comprise 19 indicators and over 200 observation variables that reflect the competitiveness of the subjects.
