On June 27,2025, the Confucius Institute jointly established by Hainan University (HNU) and Royal University of Agriculture, Kingdom of Cambodia (RUA) hosted the “RUA Scientific Day 2025 in Celebration of the 1st Anniversary of Confucius Institute of RUA”. Themed “Innovations in Tropical Agriculture and Youth Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Food Systems”, the event attracted more than 400 distinguished guests from government agencies, academia and industry sectors of China and Cambodia.
H.E. Jiang Nan, Minister of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Cambodia, H.E. Suon Serey, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and H.E. Ty Sokun, Member of the National Assembly and Chairman of the Advisory Council of the Cambodian Agricultural Association, attended the event and delivered speeches. The gathering brought together experts from HNU, representatives of Cambodian higher-education institutions and agricultural professionals, fostering lively interactions and in-depth knowledge exchanges.
H.E. Jiang Nan spoke highly of the Confucius Institute of the Royal University of Agriculture, Kingdom of Cambodia (CIRUA) for its significant role in promoting people-to-people connectivity and deepening cultural exchanges between China and Cambodia. He stated that China stands ready to work with Cambodia to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries. By leveraging platforms such as the Confucius Institute, both sides will further expand cooperation in key areas including language, agriculture, education, and science and technology, while encouraging the youth to engage in deeper exchanges, grow together, and progress hand in hand.
Both H.E. Suon Serey and H.E. Ty Sokun extended their hearty congratulations on the first anniversary of the establishment of CIRUA, and fully acknowledged the in-depth cooperation between the two countries in agriculture, education and culture. H.E. Suon Serey emphasized that CIRUA not only serves as an important platform for Cambodian youth to learn Chinese and explore Chinese culture, but also injects new momentum into agricultural innovation cooperation between the two countries.
During the event, the expert team from HNU shared China’s cutting-edge practices in tropical crop cultivation, smart agriculture and sustainable development under the theme “Innovations in Tropical Agriculture and Youth Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Food Systems”. The participants further engaged in panel discussions focusing on upgrading of tropical agricultural technology in Cambodia, extension of industrial chain and cultivation of young talents. They proposed cooperation suggestions, including establishing a Sino-Cambodia Joint Research and Development Center for Agricultural Technology and implementing youth entrepreneurship training programs. These initiatives provide innovative pathways to advance Cambodia’s agricultural modernization.
The event was not only a review of the achievements made by CIRUA over the past year, but also a concrete manifestation of both countries’ commitment to advancing agricultural development, enhancing people-to-people exchanges, and deepening strategic mutual trust through practical cooperation.
