The press briefing for the League of Tropical Universities (LTU) 2025 Summit took place at the Information Office of Hainan Province on the morning of April 8. It was organized by the Publicity Department of the CPC Hainan Provincial Committee.

HNU President Luo Qingming, also a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), introduced the LTU’s recent development and the highlights of the upcoming Summit. Noor Azuan Abu Osman, Vice Chancellor of the University of Malaya (UM), and Muhammad Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib, Vice Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), made remarks via video link. During the Q&A session, Li Jihua, Vice President of Chinese Academy of Tropical Agriculture Sciences (CATAS), Luo Qingming, Yue Wen, Vice President of HNU, Han Shumei, Director of HNU Publicity Department and Liu Liang, Director of HNU Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, answered questions from the media.
The LTU 2025 Summit is scheduled for April 13–16 at Hainan University under the theme of “Consultation, Contribution, and Shared Benefits: Towards a Shared Future of Higher Education for the Tropical Regions.” It aims to explore solutions for shared development challenges and transform unique resource advantages into drivers for sustainable development, with digital education, high yield tropical agriculture, One Health, cultural exchange, and green development as the focus. The agenda includes the Opening Ceremony, the Release of LTU Achievements, the LTU President Panel Talk on Digital Education, and four Parallel Sessions on key topics, namely High Yield Tropical Agriculture and Rural Development, One Health and Tropical Diseases Prevention & Control, Mutual Learning among Civilizations and Digital Humanities, Blue Carbon Technology and Green Development. The Summit will also include the LTU Council Meeting, Introduction to LTU Members & Prospects for Future Cooperation, bilateral and multilateral meetings, cultural activities, and a tropics-themed gala.
Journalists from Xinhua News Agency, Hainan News, Hong Kong Commercial Daily, Hainan Daily, Haikou Daily, Sansha TV, and Business Daily of International Tourism Island, as well as representatives of HNU faculty and students, attended the press briefing.
