From February 17 to 19, a delegation from the Division for Prosperity of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), led by Program Coordinator Ms. Meng Lu and Executive Director of the Singapore Prosperity Center Mr. Wu Fengping, visited Hainan University (HNU). Two sides explored the prospects of launching programs to empower HNU students with a global vision.
Liu Liang, Director of HNU’s Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, met with the delegation on February 17. Liu briefed them on the development of HNU and expressed interest in strengthening ties with UNITAR to advance talent nurturing and the development of the League of Tropical Universities (LTU). Meng Lu appreciated HNU’s hospitality and introduced UNITAR’s mission and initiatives, hoping to boost HNU students’ global competitiveness through joint education programs. Representatives from the Law School, International Business School (IBS), and the School of Information and Communication Engineering introduced their respective programs and collaboration goals. Discussions involved the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), UNITAR’s Youth Ambassador Asia-Pacific Program, and executive training programs.

On February 18, the delegation visited HNU-ASU Joint International Tourism College (HAITC). Two sides had in-depth discussions on strengthening international cooperation and expanding student participation in short-term summer programs. Wang Lin, Dean of HAITC, proposed creating more learning opportunities overseas through international exchange programs to equip students with a global vision.

Later that day, the delegation visited the IBS and two sides had a productive meeting on joint education, executive training, and customized short-term training programs. Hosted by Tang Ningyu, Dean of IBS, the meeting focused on the specifics of potential collaboration, with a consensus reached on leveraging their respective strengths and sharing resources to achieve win-win outcomes. Associate Deans Xu Nengrui and Tong Zelin also shared their insights on these training programs as well as market demands.

On February 19, the delegation visited HNU Science Park. Two sides explored the possibilities of co-hosting innovation and entrepreneurship competitions for university students across Southeast Asia. Besides, they discussed the ways to enhance cooperation under the framework of the LTU, conduct resource-sharing and realize win-win cooperation.
