UoW Delegation from New Zealand Visits HNU

Neil Quigley, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Waikato (UoW), led a delegation to visit Hainan University (HNU) on December 9. HNU President Luo Qingming, also a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), met with the visitors at HNU International Academic Exchange Center.

Neil Quigley heaped praise upon HNU’s leapfrog development and introduced UoW’s history, academic strengths, and collaboration with Chinese universities. He emphasized UoW’s commitment to creating an enriching environment for students and providing internship opportunities for exchange students. In light of the success of the current joint programs, Quigley expressed hope for deeper collaboration in such fields as artificial intelligence (AI) and computer science. He also proposed the establishment of a cooperative educational institution to nurture innovative talent.

Luo Qingming warmly welcomed the delegation and outlined HNU’s achievements in enhancing educational quality, strengthening academic disciplines, and advancing international partnerships. He underscored HNU’s dedication to global engagement, noting the potential for cooperation in various academic fields. Luo called for leveraging their respective strengths to promote faculty and student exchanges, launch high-level joint research projects, and achieve significant outcomes in talent development, scientific innovation, and collaborative education programs.

Before the meeting, the delegation paid a visit to the School of Information and Communication Engineering and held talks with faculty and student representatives from the Intelligent Science and Technology program.

Other UoW representatives and HNU Vice President Yue Wen and leaders of relevant departments attended the event.
