On the afternoon of September 14, Hainan University (HNU) held the third “Brainstorming for the Future of HNU” Seminar under the theme of “Integrated Institutional Innovation and High-standard Opening-up of Hainan Free Trade Port” in the Legal Studies Building. The event was attended by President Luo Qingming, also a CAS member, along with other senior leaders Gao Diangong, Zou Yonghua, Liu Qian, Li Buhong, Chen Jun, Han Shumei, and Yang Zhixin. It was presided over by Vice President Gao Diangong.

In his summary speech, President Luo emphasized the importance of recruiting high-caliber professionals and improving the training mechanism for them. He urged efforts to capitalize on the advantageous resources of the Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP), build excellent research teams, and accelerate high-quality academic development. He stressed that HNU should define the goals, tasks, outcomes and talent growth in the course of academic discipline development and prioritize the issues related to socio-economic development of Hainan FTP, thus contributing to its institutional innovation. Besides, Luo highlighted the importance of strengthening ideological and political education, enhancing risk management capabilities, and fostering a positive campus culture in which students and faculty stay committed to the growth of HNU and aspire to be a credit to HNU.

At the seminar, Wang Qi, Dean of the Law School, provided an update on the development of HNU’s Collaborative Innovation Center for FTP Development & Institutional Innovation. Professors Chang Jian, Yang Na, Wu Wenwu, and Guo Qingbin from the related academic disciplines, including legal studies, Marxism studies, tourism & public management, and international business, shared their insights on core team building, project planning, platform development, and supportive measures. President Luo offered feedback on their observations.
Faculty and student representatives exchanged ideas on the institutional innovation and high-standard opening-up of Hainan FTP. They discussed the latest development, challenges, and opportunities while providing constructive suggestions for the further development of HNU’s Collaborative Innovation Center for FTP Development and Institutional Innovation as well as the building of Hainan FTP.
Heads of relevant departments, schools and residential colleges as well as student and faculty representatives were also in attendance.
