HNU Holds 28th Distinguished Scientist Lecture


On the afternoon of September 10, Hainan University (HNU) held its 28th Distinguished Scientist Lecture in the auditorium of the Tin Ka Ping Building. The featured speaker, Prof. Way Kuo, a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President Emeritus of City University of Hong Kong (CityU), delivered a lecture titled “A Glimpse into the Seven Usable Energies”. President Luo Qingming, also a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences,presided over the event with other HNU leaders Nie Qingbin, Zou Yonghua, Liu Qian, and Chen Jun in attendance.

Prof. Kuo drew on real-life examples and international events to introduce the concept and significance of “seven usable energies” in an easily comprehensible way. He offered a detailed comparison of various energy sources, including coal, natural gas, oil, nuclear energy, biomass, wind power, and solar energy. Besides, Kuo provided an in-depth analysis of global energy trends, emphasizing the importance of nuclear power as a low-carbon and reliable green energy source, crucial for mitigating air pollution and tackling climate change.

The auditorium was fully packed, and the audience were engrossed in the insightful presentation. Following the lecture, they had a lively Q&A session and Prof. Kuo provided detailed answers.

Over 500 faculty members and students from all the campuses and science & education parks of HNU attended the event, in person or virtually. Representatives from the Hainan Association for Science and Technology and relevant departments of Hainan University were also present.
