On September 15, 2023, Clarivate Analytics released the latest ESI ranking in which Hainan University’s Social Sciences General is among the global top 1% for the first time, a key breakthrough in its ESI discipline development.

ESI is a database for bibliometric analysis based on more than 10 million papers from more than 12,000 global academic journals included in the Web of Science. It is one of the most important indicators commonly used across the world to evaluate the international academic level and influence of colleges and universities, academic institutes, countries or regions. In the past 10 years, 245 papers on Social Sciences General from Hainan University have been included in Web of Science, with a cumulative total of 1,860 citations (the average citation frequency of each paper is 7.59), and 19 papers selected as ESI top papers.

Up to now, Hainan University has eight disciplines ranked among the global top 1% of ESI: Plant & Animal Science, Materials Science, Chemistry, Agricultural Sciences, Engineering, Environmental/Ecology, Biology and Biochemistry, and Social Science General.
