Asian Games 2026: Hainan University Students Win Five Golds, One Silver

The 20th Asian Games ran Sept. 19 to Oct. 4 in Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya, Japan. Three Hainan University undergraduates, all sports and leisure majors, were named to China’s roster: Lin Shidong and Kuai Man, third-year students, in table tennis, and Jin Shuhan, a first-year student, in surfing. Lin and Kuai brought home five golds and one silver.

Lin Shidong won three table tennis golds: mixed doubles, men’s doubles and men’s singles. In mixed doubles, he and Kuai Man beat their Chinese compatriots Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha 4-0. In men’s doubles, he and Huang Youzheng defeated Japan’s Tomokazu Harimoto and Hiroto Shinozuka 4-2. In men’s singles, he beat Wang Chuqin 4-0 to complete a treble.

In the men’s team final, China fell 2-3 to Japan to settle for silver, but Lin kept China alive with a 3-1 win over Shunsuke Togami in the third match.

Kuai Man also secured a remarkable treble by winning three table tennis golds: mixed doubles, women’s team and women’s doubles. In the women’s team final, China swept Japan 3-0 to claim a sixth straight title, with Kuai closing out Mima Ito 3-0 in the third match to seal gold. In women’s doubles, she and Wang Manyu swept Japan’s Miwa Harimoto and Hina Hayata 4-0.

Surfing made its Asian Games debut, and Hainan University’s Jin Shuhan represented China in the women’s shortboard. A rising talent in Chinese surfing and a National Games medalist, Jin was named to China’s Asian Games surfing squad in June 2026, competing on the Asian stage.

Our student-athletes displayed extraordinary tenacity and fighting spirit, and their efforts have inspired the entire university community.
