HNU Holds the Third Lecture of Luminaries Lecture Series in Humanities & Social Sciences

On the afternoon of May 28th, 2024, Fang Chuanglin, an expert in regional and urban planning, delivered a lecture titled “High-quality Development of Urban Agglomerations and Beautiful China Initiative”. It is the third lecture of Luminaries Lecture Series in Humanities & Social Sciences initiated by Hainan University (HNU). Fu Xuanguo, Chairman of the HNU Council, as well as other members of Standing Committee of CPC Hainan University Committee including He Yong, Li Buhong, Han Shumei, Tan Yong, and Yang Zhixin, attended the lecture. Fang Chuanglin started his lecture by elaborating on Bole-Taipei Line (a line for regional balanced development), and systematically expounded the urban agglomeration as a driving force in Chinese high-quality development from four aspects: the connotation of urban agglomeration, the strategic position and significance of urban agglomeration construction, and the law of urban agglomeration development, and the development of urban agglomeration in China. In addition, he summarized the measures to promote the urban agglomeration construction and the basic thinking for Beautiful China Initiative in the context of following Chinese path to modernization.

Fang noted that urban agglomerations are the core areas for high-quality development, the main areas of new urbanization in China and the pioneering areas for Beautiful China Initiative. To build a beautiful China, we need to follow objective laws to pursue harmonious coexistence between human and nature by protecting the ecological environment, efficiently utilizing natural resources, and achieving high-quality economic and social development.

In the concluding part of the lecture, Fang said that Hainan University has a strategically important role to play in the construction of the Beibu Gulf urban agglomeration, and it needs to pool more talents with more projects and shoulder the great responsibility of building a beautiful Hainan.
