On December 5, Hainan Province Science and Technology Award Conference was held in Haikou. Feng Fei, Secretary of the CPC Hainan Provincial Committee and Director of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People’s Congress, attended the conference and delivered a speech. Liu Xiaoming, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Hainan Provincial Committee and Governor of Hainan Province, chaired the conference. Shen Danyang, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Hainan Provincial Committee, and other provincial leaders were also present at the conference. Twenty research projects of Hainan University were conferred the 2022 Hainan Province Science and Technology Award, topping the provincial list and reaching a record high with 1 special prize, 6 first prizes, 11 second prizes and 2 third prizes.

Feng Fei pointed out that it is essential to study the important viewpoint of General Secretary Xi Jinping on scientific and technological innovation, so as to seize the opportunities brought by the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, and accelerate the innovation and institutional reform of science and technology, and build a high-level innovative province that better serves national strategy and local development.

Feng Fei emphasized that we need to adhere to the scientific and technological innovation in leading and supporting high-quality development with the aim to build a regional center for scientific and technological innovation, strengthen the construction of high-level innovation platforms with Hainan characteristics, accelerate the establishment of a magnet for “land-sea-air” scientific and technological innovation. We need to reinforce scientific and technological support of the modern industrial system and the dominant role of enterprises in scientific and technological innovation.

It is necessary to create a competitive climate for science and technology innovation in Hainan Free Trade Port, deepen the reform of science and technology system, improve the cultivation of scientific and technological talents, expand opening up and cooperation in science and technology between provinces and ministries as well as with key regions such as the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and also forge a number of landmark projects of science and technology in cooperation with ASEAN countries and the Belt and Road co-builders.

Departments at all levels should strengthen the overall planning of scientific and technological resources, and strive to build Hainan Free Trade Port into a hot land that is full of innovation and entrepreneurship.
