1. Artificial Intelligence

(1) Introduction

Hainan University set up the undergraduate major of Artificial Intelligence in 2021, former known as Intelligence Science and Technology major set up in 2019. In 2022, the major was approved as a provincial first-class undergraduate major construction site.

Main Discipline: Information and Communication Engineering

(2) Academic System and Degree

The basic academic system is 4 years. This major adopts a flexible system of 3-6 years.

Students having completed the courses stipulated in the professional training program with passing grades are qualified to graduate. The Bachelor of Engineering is conferred upon those who have fulfilled the prescribed requirements.

(3) Training Objectives

Oriented to the talent demands for national strategy, regional economic and social development and artificial intelligence development and rooted in the principle of fostering virtue through education, this major aims to cultivate compound senior professional technicians with sound personality, broad knowledge base and professional proficiency, who have a sense of social responsibility, international vision, innovative thinking and practical ability, possess basic theory knowledge and engineering application ability in the field of artificial intelligence, and have the ability to engage themselves in research, development, design, management, maintenance and technical support in the artificial intelligence program and related fields.

Graduates should be able to achieve the following objectives by approx. 5-year study:

Objective 1: Be able to adapt to the development of artificial intelligence, integrate the basic knowledge of mathematics and latest professional knowledge of artificial intelligence, and to provide systematic solutions to complex engineering projects.

Objective 2: Be able to follow the cutting-edge technologies in artificial intelligence and related fields, possess the spirit of innovation and the ability of engineering practice, and to utilize modern tools to carry out design, development and manufacturing of related products in the major;

Objective 3: Be familiar with relevant laws, standards and codes in the field of engineering and their application in engineering, and be able to take environment and sustainability into account during engineering practice.

Objective 4: Beable to maintain a healthy body and mind, continuously improve humanistic literacy and professional skills, and to carry out effective communication and collaboration as a key member or leader of a team.

Objective 5: Beable to possess globalization consciousness and international vision, and continue to expand their knowledge and abilities and broaden international outlook through continuous learning, carrying out decision-making related to engineering project management and economy under domestic and international situations and environments with changes.

(4) Graduation Requirements

Graduates should meet the following requirements in the knowledge and ability:

1. Engineering Knowledge: Be able to solve complex engineering problems in the field of artificial intelligence by applying professional knowledge of mathematics, natural sciences, engineering fundamentals.

2. Problem Analysis: Be able to identify and express and analyze complex engineering problems in the field of artificial intelligence for valid conclusions by applying basic principles of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences and conducting the literature research.

3. Design/Development of Solutions: Be able to design solutions to complex engineering problems in the field of artificial intelligence, and to design innovative systems, and function module processes to meet specific needs on the premise of taking society, morality, health, safety, laws, culture, and environment factors into account.

4. Research: Be able to conduct research on complex engineering problems in the field of artificial intelligence based on science principles and methods, including designing experiment and analyzing and interpreting data, and to draw reasonable and effective conclusions through information integration.

5. Use of Modern Tools: Have the ability to develop, select and use appropriate techniques, resources, modern engineering tools and information technology tools for complex engineering problems in the field of artificial intelligence.

6. Engineering and Society: Be able to make reasonable analysis based on relevant background knowledge of artificial intelligence major, evaluate the impact of engineering practice and solutions to complex engineering problems on society, health, safety, law and culture, and to understand the responsibilities to be assumed.

7. Environment and Sustainable Development: Be able to understand and evaluate the impacts of engineering practices with complex engineering problems in the field of artificial intelligence on sustainable development of the environment and society.

8. Professional Norms: Have good literacy in humanities and social sciences and strong sense of social responsibility and be able to understand and comply with professional ethics and norms and fulfill a duty in engineering practice. Students should be able to present language in a standardized manner during normal writing.

9. Individuals and Teams: Be able to assume the responsibilities of individuals, team members and persons in charge in teams made up of talents in different fields.

10. Communication: Be able to effectively conduct communication and interaction on complex engineering issues in the field of artificial intelligence with industry partners and the public, including writing reports and designing manuscripts, presenting statements, and articulating or responding to instructions. Have an international perspective and be able to communicate and interact in an intercultural context.

11. Project Management:Understand and master management principles and economic decision-making methods related to artificial intelligence engineering, and be able to apply them in a multidisciplinary environment.

12. Lifelong Learning: Have the awareness of autonomous and lifelong learning, and be able to track development dynamics in the latest frontier field of artificial intelligence and keep on learning and adapt to development of the major.

(6) Employment and Further Study

The graduates training program connects with artificial intelligence and other emerging industries. With good employment prospects, graduates are qualified in engaging themselves in teaching, scientific research and development and application of intelligent information processing, intelligent control, intelligent human-computer interaction and intelligent system integration in scientific research, education, and high-tech enterprises and institutions as well as administration departments. Graduates can apply for postgraduate studies in information and communication engineering, electronic information, automation, computer and other programs related to artificial intelligence. Those with excellent academic performance can be directly recommended as master's, direct doctoral or master's-doctoral students of our university or domestic famous universities, and some graduates go abroad for further study in the form of exchange students or in other ways.
