Leisure Sports (Outdoor Sports program)

The Outdoor Sports program at the School of Physical Education of Hainan University was developed in 2021 as an extension of the undergraduate curriculum for Leisure Sports Major. It leverages Hainan Province's natural outdoor resources and domestic demand for outdoor activities to offer specialized courses that cover land, sea and air domains.

Presently, the primary outdoor sports courses offered include outdoor development training, basic outdoor skills, wilderness survival, outdoor hiking, orienteering, tree climbing, camp education, glamping, etc.


Leisure Sports (Sailing & Windsurfing program)

Upholding a student-centric educational philosophy, the Sailing & Windsurfing program at the School of Physical Education of Hainan University utilizes the superior facilities of the national team's winter training base to provide theoretical and practical courses in sailing and windsurfing. Plans are underway to develop these courses into a flagship program in water sports at the School of Physical Education.


Introduction to Leisure Sports Major of the School of Physical Education

In 2019, the School of Physical Education of Hainan University commenced the Leisure Sports major with the approval of the Ministry of Education, starting enrolling full-time undergraduates that year.

I. Training Objectives:

The program is intended to cultivate high-quality applied sports professionals with a holistic development in morality, intelligence, physique, aesthetics and labor skills. Graduates should possess strong social responsibility, scientific and cultural literacy, and the ability to plan and organize leisure sports projects, manage leisure sports clubs, promote and operate sports tourism, and guide and manage outdoor sports. Additionally, they should be innovative, possess practical skills, and demonstrate a sound personality.

II. Training Requirements:

Students are expected to understand the theoretical frontiers and development trends of leisure sports scientific research at home and abroad and have a preliminary grasp of research methodology in leisure sports science. They should possess strong specialized skills in leisure sports and professional qualifications in two or more leisure sports. And they should be capable of working in enterprises and public institutions engaged in recreational sports services such as water sports companies, leisure fitness clubs, outdoor and development training institutions, sports culture development companies, and sports venues.

III. Specializations:

The program offers four specializations: water sports and management, leisure fitness sports and management, outdoor development sports and management, and golf management.

IV. Main Courses:

The curriculum features courses such as Introduction to Physical Education, Sports Anatomy, Sports Physiology, Sports Psychology, Sports Sociology, Health Education, Research Methods in Sports Science, Introduction to Leisure Sports, Introduction to Sports Tourism, Sports Club Operation and Management, Sports Event Management, Sports Injury Prevention and First Aid, Sports Competition Organization and Scheduling, Fitness Theory and Guidance, Sports Statistics, Swimming, Swimming and Lifesaving, Diving, Rock Climbing, Development Sports, Golf, Recreational Ball Games, Aerobics, and Traditional Ethnic Sports.

V. Duration: four-year programs, with a range of 4-6 years for completion.
