In June of 2023, the school of Marine Biology and Fisheries is newly established through the adjustment and optimization of disciplines and specialties,building upon the foundation of original the school of marine science. The new school will continue to adhere its distinctive educational characteristics, focusing on "Ocean, Tropical, Ecology," with a goal to create a high-level teaching and research institution. It is closely aligned with research, development, utilization, and conservation of tropical marine resources, emphasizing talent development, scientific innovation, and community service.In 2003, our school was granted approval to establish the "Hainan Province Key Laboratory of Tropical Aquatic Biotechnology."

In 2005, it was approved to create the "Key Laboratory of Tropical Biological Resources" by the Ministry of Education. In 2007, the college was recognized as an "Advanced Collective of the Hainan Province Education System." In 2009, the "Marine Biology Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center" became the first and only national-level demonstration center in Hainan Province. In 2012, the "Innovation Team for Healthy Aquaculture and Disease Control of Tropical Aquatic Species" was selected as an "Outstanding Talent and Innovation Team in Agricultural Research" by the Ministry of Agriculture. In 2014, the Tropical Aquaculture Health Breeding Discipline Group was awarded the title of "National Advanced Group of Professional and Technical Personnel." In 2016, the college established the "State Key Laboratory of South China Sea Marine Resource Utilization" in collaboration with other disciplines at Hainan University.

Our school currently has assembled a dynamic and well-structured staff. It comprises20 professors with senior titles, 36 associate professors, 15 junior lecturers,and 67 faculty members holding doctoral degrees. And among them, 59 teachers wereunder the age of 45, and 19 teachers have been abroad for more than 1 year. The college has received recognition and contributions from various national and provincial awards and honors. We have one national outstanding professional and technical personnel, one national outstanding agricultural scientific research personnel, one State Council special paste expert, and two outstanding young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions in Hainan Province; There is one national advanced worker, two national excellent teachers, and one famous teaching teacher in Hainan Province.More than that, our school has hired a group of experts with greater influence at home and abroad as special professors, visiting professors and adjunct professors.
