On the afternoon of May 5, the delegation led by Roberto Santana, honorary president of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic arrived at Hainan University for a friendly visit. Chen Mingbao, member of the standing committee of the Party Committee of Hainan University, and Director of the United Front Work Department, warmly received the delegation. The two sides held a discussion in the reception room 402 of the administration building.

Roberto Santana expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Hainan University for its warm welcome. He said that after visiting the history museum of Hainan University and the College of International Education, he was deeply impressed with the teaching atmosphere and environment of Hainan University. He pointed out that Hainan Island and Dominica are both on 18 degrees north latitude, with many similarities in natural conditions. The two sides can exchange and cooperate in agriculture, tourism, animal husbandry and education.

He emphasized that Hainan Island is currently actively developing the Hainan Free Trade Pilot Zone and exploring for free trade ports with Chinese characteristics. The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo has world-class customs experts, and the two sides can also cooperate in fields like oceanography, customs and energy. He sincerely invited the leaders of Hainan University to visit the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo.

Chen Mingbao said that Hainan University is honored to receive representatives from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo, which has a history of 500 years. He emphasized that as the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation just ended in Beijing, exchanges and cooperation with the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo exemplifies Hainan University's responsibility and obligation to promote the Belt and Road development. He mentioned that Hainan University first cooperated with the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil and established the China-Brazil Agricultural Innovation Center. He invited the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo to join in and form a tripartite cooperation in the agricultural sector.

He believes that an entry point needs to be found for the cooperation between the two universities. Starting from easy-to-start fields, both sides can sign a cooperation agreement after deepening understanding and communication.

During the discussion, the two sides also exchanged views on cigar planting bases and natural rubber planting techniques.
