Professor presents report on smart city resilience at HNU

Updated: 2021-05-25

Professor Li Dezhi, vice-dean of the School of Civil Engineering at Southeast University (SEU), delivered an academic report titled "Is Smart City Resilient? – Evidence from China" at Hainan University (HNU) on May 21.

According to Li, the concepts of "smart city" and "resilient city" were put forward as measures to deal with problems caused by China's rapid urbanization.

In this instance, resilience refers to the ability to resist the impact of adverse events, as well as the ability to recover and maintain normal operations.

Li assessed the resilience of 197 domestic smart cities in order to research the connections between smart and resilient cities, finding a positive correlation between smart cities and urban resilience. The smarter a city is, the more resilient it is likely to be.
