HNU hosts national public diplomacy winter camp
The 5th National Public Diplomacy Winter Camp for Youth Leaders opened at Hainan University (HNU) on Jan 6.
A total of 36 students from 16 domestic and foreign universities are attending the 10-day event jointly organized by HNU and Beijing Foreign Studies University.
Experts and scholars versed in public diplomacy have been invited to give lessons. A bevy of practical activities, including simulated press conferences, city promotional conferences, debates, academic visits, workshop tours, and investigations are also taking place.
The event is aimed at cultivating reserves for domestic public diplomacy talents through intensive learning, discussions, and practices.
The opening ceremony of the 5th National Public Diplomacy Winter Camp for Youth Leaders is held at HNU on Jan 6.
Luo Linquan, vice president of the China Public Diplomacy Association, noted at the opening ceremony that public diplomacy in the new era should voice China's policy stances, increase the mutual understanding and trust between China and other countries, as well as strive for more recognition.
Liao Qinglin, deputy executive secretary of the HNU Party committee, gave an overview of the university's development to the campers.
HNU will make full use of its location advantages, as well as carry out research and practices of public diplomacy to serve major national strategies and Hainan's socioeconomic development, said Liao.
