HNU establishes Magnolia Scholar Award to recognize high-level talents
A Magnolia Scholar Award was established at Hainan University (HNU) with 50 million yuan ($7.1 million) donated by Hainan David Investment Co Ltd on Aug 10 to recognize high-level talents and prominent contributors.

Kang Yaohong, deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Hainan Provincial People's Congress, noted that the rapid development of HNU cannot be separated from the support of government and all sectors of society. He expressed hope that the Mulan Scholar Award can reward front-line teachers and give incentive for more to emerge.
Since 2015, Hainan David Investment has spent 53 million yuan donating rare tree species, landscape stones, and a magnolia garden to HNU, as well as renovating the building of the university's College of Art and Design and the concert hall.
David Group eyes further cooperation with HNU in talent cultivation, campus recruitment, internships, and employee training on the back of the establishment of the Magnolia Scholar Award, said Tan Kaiqi, chief executive officer of the company.

Huang Yugang, chairman of David Group, was appointed as a member of HNU's International Consultant Committee, while Chen was appointed as the university's special president consultant.
